Kalmar Ind. DTS
Kalmar Ind. DTS
Overview
After entering the Kalmar Ind. cabin, you are turning the ignition key and the engine starts. Your right hand grabs the joystick
and your
left hand the steering wheel - you are ready to train.
The Kalmar Industries DTS, Driver Training System, offers three different machines: Reach stacker, Top lift and the Empty container handler. Step-by-step you will learn how to operate a Kalmar Industries container handling machine, in a safe and efficient manner. Read more about why here.
Training program
The training program starts with basic exercises, step-by-step the severity increases
, to prepare the operator for real-life. The training program is developed in cooperation with Kalmar Industries and Port of Gothenburg. The simulator is available for three Kalmar industries machines: Reachstacker, Toplift and the Empty container handler.
While training, the operator receives head-up displayed instruction, so that the instructor do not have to be present at all time. During all training, the simulation software gather data, later presented in an evaluation report. Data such as fuel consumption, how the operator handled the controls and productivity can be viewed and support the evaluation of the operator.
The training is focused in learning how to maneuver and operate the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner. Of course the training program includes important safety precautions such as usage of the turn signal and how high the operator maneuvers the container.
Hardware setup

Sitting in a Kalmar Industries DTS, means sitting in a real Kalmar Industries cabin. All levers, controls are the very same as in the real one. In front of you, the simulation is visualized on a large back projected screen.
You can also combine the different Kalmar training simulators using the same hardware. Since some Kalmar vehicle has different controls, the control box is easily replaceable on the simulator since it has quick couplings, enabling the possibility to use levers instead of joystick.
