Skogforsk using simulator for research

Wednesday 31 March 2010

Skogforsk (the Forestry Research Institute of Sweden) is the central research center for the Swedish forestry sector. Skogforsk employs 100 persons, of which 60 are researchers. Skogforsk is the prominent organization in Swedish forestry research, particularly for forestry machines. That’s why we are especially glad to be a partner of Skogforsk. Skogforsks mission is to supply the forestry sector in Sweden with knowledge and products that will contribute to profitable and ecologically sustainable, multiple-use forestry, an internationally competitive forest products industry and the prosperity of the country on the whole.

"”The simulator helps us in our applied research in analyzing, improving and implementing new ideas regarding Human Machine Interaction (HMI) in forestry machines” Björn Löfgren, Skogforsk.

The simulator – a powerful tool
The simulator is a powerful and advanced tool for researchers. The simulator makes it possible to test new applications and devices in a controlled environment, which makes testing much more effective as well as easier. Costs for testing also decrease, because the physical device doesn’t have to be manufactured. Skogforsk has carried out many projects with the simulator. Research is mainly focused on harvesters. These projects include crane tip steering, head-up displays and joysticks for automated crane control. For more information, see Skogforsks website.
